Has anyone here read Perfume? I'm thinking about diving in to that one soon... just curious.

Call me difficult but does anyone agree that if there is no Ellis news we should be talking about the themes of his books such as hyperrealism instead of posting useless news. Maybe my life is too limited and narrow minded. I was just wondering if this was an Ellis fan website.

i'm interested in all ellis news but i agree that there is not enough discussion of ellis' works or themes themselves.

We need the forum back! :)

The Master and Margarita was pretty dull i think. Maybe i just didn't get it.
And mersault is number 20? That can't be right.
Victor Ward sure would've made into the list if i was in charge.
By the way the list is top 20 villains AND anti-heroes.
Yeah, the forum. You just don't know what you've got til it's gone.

Mitch, I think we should talk about some of the themes in your post such as Hyperdoucheism.

Relax...I was just thinking about examples of what we may talk about instead of rankings of villains and anti-heros.

We could talk about rankings of douchebags who visit this website.

I'm sure this is boring to everyone reading this email fight between you and me so for the sake of it lets just move on.

Does anybody know if Ellis refers to cocaine in Lunar Park or has he stopped doing coke which I think may explain why his writing is leaning towards being boring.

Lots of coke references in Lunar Park. His character is not clean in the book.

I was actually enjoying the fight more than this.

I would say his writing as been non-existent not boring.

I meant that his new stuff has been a bit boring and dillusional for my taste but I am confused by the word 'non-existent'. What do you mean exactly? I'll also add that I think the reason why Ellis is not so good these days is mainly due to that his books have a plot now and to be honest Ellis appealed to me in the past because he wrote about things not happening and I loved the type of So What and What's The Point style but now I think he has lost that.
[17] On Apr-03-2005, Kyle wrote:
I can agree with that.

non-existent in that he hasn't written a book in 7 years. Are you specifically referring to Glamorama as his 'new stuff' and if so I have to disagree with you a bit. I think the entire first half of that book resembled his previous work perfectly. The second half had a very vague semblance of a plot but nothing to really sink your teeth into. I think the main difference in that book, in comparison to his others, is not so much the appearance of a plot but the development of his main character.

Yeah...your right but I'm getting really bored with character development. I like old Ellis (Less Than Zero to The Informers) when the main characters were hallow and swallow and empty instead of the new Ellis (Glamorama) where the characters start to learn and things like that because then the book takes itself too seriously.

Getting back to random news. I'm surprised there hasn't been any talk about Christian Bale playing Batman in the upcoming Batman Begins movie. That seems like a bigger deal than Chloe Whomever talking about a woody allen movie. Also "Batman" "Bateman"... I'm sensing a theme (just kidding). Any thoughts??

Bored with character development? I don't think i've heard that one before but i see what you mean.
I think it would've been boring if he hadn't changed and consider AP and glamorama to be his finest work so far. I mean in glamorama the first part is really funny and stuff but the latter part is the most interesting piece of writing i've probably ever read (doesn't mean much, perhaps).
There hasn't been any talk about the machinist either. He's done pretty decent roles again for a while so i guess his next movie is going to be a buddy comedy with ben stiller. Or an adventure/drama with colin farrell.
