The Informers On Film?
Is Nicholas Jarecki going to bring 'The Informers' to film? Thats what Cinematical says after talking with Jarecki at the Tribeca Film Festival.I had lunch this afternoon with Nicholas Jarecki, director of the Tribeca documentary The Outsider, which tracks James Toback through the making and release of When Will I Be Loved. Response to the film, Jarecki's first, has been strong, and with good reason: genius/madman Toback is relentlessly interesting, and the film provides a rather excellent investigation of the creative process. Jarecki's next project? An adaptation of The Informers, by Bret Easton Ellis.

Very similar in scope and pace to Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia which is a very good thing, indeed. The stories are completely interwoven... and, yes -- the vampires are included. (Or are they?)

They should have PT Anderson do it then, damn it! :-P

The draft that I read was written by Nicholas Jarecki and Bret Easton Ellis, so... who knows what the status of the project is rights-wise. I'm guessing that Bret sold them outright and then he and Jarecki wrote the adaptation together. What I do know for sure is that its really fucking good as these types of things go.

Wow, looking forward to seeing it. I always thought of this book as inadaptable. Let's just hope it will be as good as Peter the Freshman thinks. (btw: great name ;) )

Damn! I've always wanted to be the one who adapts The Informers. Haha, well there goes that pipe dream.

BRET REVIVES THE RIP-SNORTING '80'S
May 8, 2005 -- BRET Easton Ellis' new novel features a coke-snorting
cameo by his pal Jay McInerney. "Lunar Park," due out from Knopf in
August, is part faux-memoir and part horror story "in which Ellis
confronts his own legend." Ellis - who writes in the novel that Knopf
publicist Paul Bogaards called him "a potty-mouthed butt pirate" - has
given himself a fictitious wife and kids who live with him in an
exclusive suburb of Los Angeles. In one party scene he and McInerney
snort copious amounts of cocaine. Other real people who mingle with
fictitious characters include "Sex and the City" creator Candace
Bushnell, architect Campion Platt and publisher Morgan Entrekin. It's
obviously meant partly as a parody of all the partying the literary brat
pack did in the '80s. "I haven't read it, but look forward to it,"
McInerney tells us. Ellis unhelpfully said, "I actually don't have
anything to say." Meanwhile, director Nicholas Jarecki is adapting
Ellis' book "The Informers" for the movies while Ellis himself is
adapting Molly Jong-Fast's "Normal Girl."

Betty, you really have no appreciation for Bret Easton Ellis' work, and you obviously are misunderstanding every aspect of it...

wow, so let me get the rules straight here - i can't say i dislike one of his five books and love the other four, because clearly that means that i have "no appreciation for his work," despite the fact that i've been an ellis fan for many years, have met him sevehere in new york city and actually discussed his work with him, and am a writer myself? okay, got it. i dislike one of his early books (most of which he wrote while he was in college, and which he has said doesn't even like himself, either) so clearly, i'm a moron.
some of you guys aren't doing much to dispel the myth that ellis fans are hostile to chicks! please respect my dissenting opinions and chill. if you don't like what i have to say, feel free to skip my posts.

So, we have to respect your dissenting opinions but you don't have to respect our dissenting opinions in regards to your dissenting opinions. I'm afraid I must dissent. And shouldn't you be cooking anyway?
