I arrived 15 minutes before showtime and the place was SRO. Maybe 200 people. Others collected outside the doors, peering through the windows while those indoors wrapped around columns of books, unable to see Bret for the reading and QA. Speaking of which, Bret - ever so humble - greeted the crowd and read five pages from LUNAR PARK, which basically established the intrigue of the novel. Then he took questions from the crowd. Here is what I remember:
Bret thinks the latest draft of the GLAMORAMA screenplay is excellent, but doubts the movie will get off the ground given the recent terrorist activity in London, and the fact that the script is very expensive to produce. Doubts about Kip Pardue's box office value persist, and being cast again as Victor is unlikely - according to producers - (but who knows?) Bret really likes Kip in the role.
Bret claims he's never had to censor himself when writing. If you've attended a Lunar Park event, we'd love to hear what happened at your location. I am traveling so much for work right now, that I'm unable to attend either the Dallas or the Chicago events as I had originally planned.
Somewhere exists a AMERICAN PSYCHO screenplay Bret wrote years ago, never produced. Bret was so bored with book and all the controversy that he basically sabotaged the script, basing none of it on the novel, and included a Barry Manilow (yes, Barry Manilow) musical number at the end of the script.
Bret has never written a script that was produced.
Bret has no idea why he uses the same character names across different books. There is no secret linking the stories. He just does it.
He was asked many times about favorite writers and musical influences. He says he's not different than any of us. He reads and listens to the same popular stuff that we all know of. He has no recommendations. U2 and Mathew Sweet are in the CD player in his car.
He has not written any short stories in a very long time. There was no mention of future books he's working on.
He won't admit to how much of LUNAR PARK is true.
After the QA, some left, fearing the long lines. The line was probably nearing 2 hours long. I stayed, of course.

I concur with everything already mentioned by David Reeve; Ellis pretty much covered the same ground at the Pasadena event. The signing did take a long time since Ellis literally signed multiple books for each attendee. I'm sure it was exhausting but at least he tried to look like he was enjoying it!
