One of my students, a young director put on a small play based on Rules of Attraction in an underground (literally and figuratively) theater. The premiere coincided with Bret's visit to Budapest (though it may not have been pure coincidence).

Breat was cool enough to attend, answer questions, sign books and watch some of the play (which was of course performed in Hungarian, so not much use for him). The event wasn't advertised officially, so it was basically friends of the actors (all in their early 20's) who showed up, so it wasn't a promo gig per se, and yet Bret was incredibly awesome to come and support these young artists.

I played fanboy and shot a question at the Q&A, plus queued up to get my copy of Lunar Park signed whereby I could ask another one. :) Having been invited to this event I did not have to stand in queue for hours at the book festival where Bret had his public signings. He was awarded the Budapest Grand Prize for his literary achievements.

I always knew he was a great inspiration for me in my work but seeing in person how icredibly laidback and cool he is I like him even more. Though his humility sometimes comes off as a little fake, he is nevertheless very approachable. It was a great experience to be near him for this short time.
