    Robert F. Coleman Interviews Ellis

An interview of Bret by Robert F. Coleman. Reading this, I can see how close the interview came to being a complete train wreck - but between Bret being in a good mood and Coleman embracing his lack of preparation - it made for an interesting encounter.

Robert Coleman - Okay, so are you going to be re-introducing any characters in future works?

Bret Easton Ellis - No. Because I don't think there'll be any future works.

    R - Why's that?

B - Because I'm not necessarily interested in writing a novel now.I'm more interested in TV and film. I'm writing movies all the time and none of them get made and I've worked on many TV series and none of them have gotten made. And I've finally gotten to where I am right now, and I'm happy about it.

he said he was done with the novel when I saw him on the tour. If thats true I will be one unhappy fan!

It's nice that he's finally admitting he's no longer interested in writing novels. However, he also has a tendency to backslide on a lot of what he says. We'll have to wait and see.

The big problem with this is that the beauty in his work has been the internal voice the reader gets to give his words. Even in this interview snippet, a few sentences, I love the way he speaks. No film, or christ, TV actor has or will ever be able to come close to recreating that genius audibly. It's just never going to happen. That said, as long as he's writing, I'm captive. I'm glad to know, at least, he's out there creating something to entertain us. It's better than any alternative.
