Jarecki Confirms Informers Film!
The rumor of a Nicholas Jarecki directed adaptation of The Informers first surfaced in May of 2005, but it now appears to be on the verge of being realized. In an interview with CHUD.com, Jarecki talks about his film about James Toback [thanks to Frank for the tip] called Outsider and when asked about future planned projects he has this to say:Jarecki also talks about the process he went thru to get Bret on board with this adaptation. This should be an interesting project to follow. Because The Informers is easily Bret's least recognized novel, I wonder how many casual Ellis fans will be drawn in to a story that they may have skipped previously. In the fall I'm going to direct a new film called The Informers, which I've written with Bret Easton Ellis, based on his best-selling book of the same name. We wrote this very crazy, multi-character, Short Cuts/Boogie Nights type movie that takes place in 1983 in Los Angeles and is about a rock star and a movie studio president and his wife and his mistress and a vampire and a kidnapper.

Ellis Interview
The Morning News has an interview up with Bret by Robert Birnbaum. Robert has chatted with Bret a few times over the past couple of years, so his interview is quite different than most folks because he doesn't have to ask the obvious questions. [Thanks to Tim and Settemod for sending this in]The only real future project nugget is Bret's response when asked about The Informers:
BEE: And that has a script and looks like it's going to go, yeah. This would be the Nicholas Jarecki script mentioned last year, so hopefully its still progressing.

Italian Cover For The Informers
Thanks to Matt, here is the Italian cover for The Informers. This book was actually re-titled in Italy to Acqua Dal Sole which translates to Water from the Sun. I believe this book was also re-titled elsewhere in Europe to Zombies.

The Informers On Film?
Is Nicholas Jarecki going to bring 'The Informers' to film? Thats what Cinematical says after talking with Jarecki at the Tribeca Film Festival.I had lunch this afternoon with Nicholas Jarecki, director of the Tribeca documentary The Outsider, which tracks James Toback through the making and release of When Will I Be Loved. Response to the film, Jarecki's first, has been strong, and with good reason: genius/madman Toback is relentlessly interesting, and the film provides a rather excellent investigation of the creative process. Jarecki's next project? An adaptation of The Informers, by Bret Easton Ellis.
